The bracket for the Spring Kinki High School Baseball Tournament (opening on the 23rd at Waka-Saga Stadium in Kyoto) was announced on the 12th.
Risosha, which won the Osaka Tournament for the first time in a decade, will face Ritsumeikan Uji (Kyoto’s second-place team) in the opening match. Three-time defending champion Chiben Wakayama will take on Shiga Gakuen, which participated in the recent Spring Koshien. Ryukoku Daian, victorious for the first time in nine years, will face Bato Gakuin, which won the Hyogo Tournament for the first time in three years. Kyoto Gaikokuni Nishi (Kyoto’s third-place team) will go against three-time consecutive champion Tenri.
There is also a possibility that Chiben Wakayama manager Yoshiyuki Nakatani and Ryukoku Daian manager Tomoya Kawaguchi, who faced each other in the summer of 1997 at Koshien, could meet again in the final.
This tournament features eight teams: the spring tournament champions from each prefecture, along with the second- and third-place teams from the host city, Kyoto.
