Dynamo Moscow’s general director, Pavel Pivovarov, has revealed that congratulatory calls from St. Petersburg came in after his side’s dramatic 2-1 victory over Krasnodar – but he refused to disclose what was said. “Calls from St. Petersburg after the game with congratulations came in. What did they say? I won’t tell,” Pivovarov told Sport24 correspondent Sergey Kozlov.
The victory, secured by a 93rd-minute goal from Ivan Sergeev after Konstantin Tyukavin had earlier equalized Diego Costa’s opener, sparked speculation that Dynamo had handed the title to Zenit St. Petersburg by beating a direct rival. Pivovarov dismissed that notion. “Did we crown Zenit? Krasnodar prevented us from competing for the trophy, so that’s football,” he said. “We have our own tasks tied to picking up points, of which we have few. Our position may not be high, but we won’t lose it. Today the players showed they can compete with the best teams fighting for the top places.”
The result leaves Dynamo in the lower half of the table but keeps Krasnodar from closing the gap on the league leaders.
