Guangdong men’s basketball coach Du Feng stated he has no regrets after the team was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 2026 CBA playoffs, losing 1-2 to Beijing. This marks the first time in history that Guangdong has missed the semifinals for two consecutive seasons.
After the game, a reporter asked Du Feng if he had any regrets about the loss. Du Feng replied, “I have no regrets. If not winning the championship counts as regret, then many teams that have never won a title would be living in regret forever. Guangdong has won 11 championships, the most in CBA history.”
He continued, “Winning brings joy; losing requires finding problems and improving. I hope we can learn from this season and get better.”
Some fans, however, are not satisfied. Many have called for Du Feng to step down, arguing that the team’s heavy investment in new signings this season did not pay off. They point to issues with foreign player selection and inconsistent performance from key players like Xu Jie and Hu Mingxuan as reasons for the disappointing result.
One fan commented, “I really don’t want to see Du Feng as head coach next season. If he has any self-awareness, he should resign.” Another added, “How can there be no regret? Hu Mingxuan played the whole season without rest, and the team spent the entire season trying to find a proper big foreign player.”
The question remains: with such high expectations and a significant budget, can Guangdong regain its championship form next season?
