Kylian Mbappe (photo from December 2022) has landed in hot water with Real Madrid fans over his latest Instagram post amid the club’s chaotic season.
The French forward, 27, watched from home as Real Madrid went down 2-0 to Barcelona in the traditional El Clasico on the 10th. Having been sidelined through injury, Mbappe posted a picture of the match on TV with the caption “Hala Madrid♡.” The seemingly carefree “Come on, Madrid” message, paired with a heart emoji, struck a nerve with supporters.
Fans erupted in anger, with comments like “He’s mocking us,” “I can practically hear him laughing,” and “If it were 0-0, maybe, but posting this while the opponent is scoring? Unacceptable.”
It also emerged that Mbappe had spent his time off in Italy during his injury layoff in late April. Coach Ancelotti brushed off the issue, saying, “Players are free to do what they think is right during their time off. It’s not something for me to intervene in.” But fans’ frustrations have been building. An online petition calling for Mbappe to leave the club has already gathered around 74 million signatures.
Real Madrid’s troubles don’t stop there. On the 6th, teammates Tchouameni and Valverde got into a heated argument on the training ground, leaving Valverde with a cut on his head that required hospital treatment. Both players were slapped with fines of 500,000 euros (approximately 9.25 million yen) each, the highest in club history. The star-studded squad, which ended the season trophyless, is now being mocked as a “nursery.” With the World Cup on the horizon, all that’s echoing through the club is discord.
