LaLiga revealed on Monday the kickoff times for Matchday 38 of the top flight, the final round of the season, grouping all matches with something at stake for Saturday night, including Girona vs Elche. The schedule could still change depending on results from the two remaining matchdays this week.
The game at Montilivi, along with eight other fixtures currently carrying significance, is set to kick off at 9:00 PM local time, unless the league’s governing body makes adjustments. Changes could occur if either team has nothing left to play for, or if matches are regrouped based on European qualification or relegation battles, since Barcelona have already secured the title.
Relegation Battle Looms
As it stands, both Elche and Girona are likely to arrive at the final matchday fighting for survival, turning their direct encounter into a potentially dramatic showdown. This would echo the promotion playoff from August 2020, played amid the pandemic, which ended in success for the Franjiverde.
Pending any modifications, the only match LaLiga has scheduled outside the Saturday 9:00 PM window is Villarreal vs Atlético Madrid, set for Sunday, May 24, at 9:00 PM.
Before facing Girona, Elche will take on Betis on Tuesday at 8:00 PM in Matchday 36, and then host Getafe on Sunday at 7:00 PM in Matchday 37.
